2nd Panel Discussion: ‘Circular Economy: Economic opportunities for employment and growth
Kosovo is characterised by a linear economy built on the ‘take-make-use-dispose’ pattern, leading to high levels of waste, pollution, and consumption of finite natural resources. This economic model, coupled with large amounts of generated waste, improper waste management and recycling infrastructure, pose a serious threat to the environment, biodiversity and public health. There is therefore an urgent need to rethink the system. On a global scale, circular economy is recognised as a promising model for addressing environmental challenges deriving from improper waste management as it mimics the cycle of nature and everything is managed in closed loops. The main objective of this panel discussion was to identify the opportunities and challenges for Kosovo in terms of circular economy and where it currently stands. The panel was comprised of representatives from the public sector, private sector, donor community and civil society.
